Hello there my fellow Bronies (& Pegasisters, if you prefer to be called by that, but I don't, ^^;)! (Tania) Taffy Cloud here~ As you all may know, the Japanese branch of the herd shall launch it's first (officially dubbed) episode this upcoming April 2nd, and so; for those of you who just love the Japanese language, it's dubs, are curious on their take on the show, or were just really bored, xD, I've typed up this Japanese 'lesson' on certain important or pretty interesting aspects of the Japanese version, like the names (changed or not) and certain key words you'll need to pay attention to when navigating on a Japanese-only site.

BUT, before I start, I must throw in a disclaimer since I may receive a great deal of questions due to the ARSENAL fans in this community, plus I can't answer most of them anyway. D; Now, I don't want to take up much space here, so I'll make a quick list since a good deal of you might not give a flying feather. ;)
*I'm not Japanese, have NO Japanese family members, don't reside in a Japanese community, or anything particularly pertaining to Japanese.
*All my Japanese knowledge comes from various books, guides, and lectures from YouTube; I do not take Japanese classes in school (since my area of Virginia [US] doesn't provide it), nor do I have a tutor of any sort, (I'm tight on cash).
*ALTHOUGH, I'm a very dedicated student to Japanese, I plan on teaching it for a living (with [just creating] art on the side), I am very interested in the culture, and am by no means a 'weeaboo.' (If you don't know what that is: www.urbandictionary.com/define… & www.google.com/search?q=weeabo… 'Nuff said.)
*Lastly, I am 100(+20)% born from Hispanic heritage on both sides and I'm up to Spanish 4 (Honors) in high school, so I do know a great deal of Spanish; BUT I was born here in the US, and thanks to Ed, Edd, N' Eddy (TV show), I'm not such an expert with speaking it...

Well then, let's begin!

.:The Mane 6:.

I highly suggest that for the links:magnify: you right-click and open them in another tab.

English Name Japanese Name [Ro.ma.ji (Roman characters/pronunciation guide)] Link to audio on Google Translate

*When you see '-' in the brackets, you just extend the last sound.

Twilight Sparkle トワイライトスパークル [to.wa.i.ra.i.to su.pa-.ku.ru] :magnify:

Applejack アップルジャック [ap.pu.ru.jyak.ku] :magnify:

Rarity ラリティ [ra.ri.ti] :magnify:

Pinkie Pie ピンキーパイ [pin.ki- pa.i] :magnify:

Fluttershy フラッターシャイ [fu.rat.ta-.sha.i] :magnify:

Rainbow Dash レインボーダッシュ [re.in.bo- das.shu] :magnify:

There you go~ Now you now how to say (and most likely pronounce correctly) the Mane 6's names, IN JAPANESE! (Romaji) Ni.hon.go / (Kana) にほんご / ニホンゴ / 日本語 (Kanji) !!!!!

So, onto looking at Japanese pages. But I'm going to remind you that this is a VERY basic lesson for beginners and English-speakers who may not be interested in actually learning every aspect of Japanese; that's why I must keep this so basic, it's a guide after all. :D (But for those of you who really want to learn it, I have links to my work and really helpful sites~)

.:Writing Styles / Alphabet(s):.

(I must make this as basic as possible, even though this is a topic I like teaching; so forgive me if it's somewhat lengthy D; !)

There are three main writing styles in Japanese (technically four in all), there is Ro.ma-.ji (ロマー字; literally 'Roman' & 'characters') most used by teens, titles, and for advertising ('looks cool'), Ka.na (仮名; literally 'pseudonym' or 'another name') which is composed of Hi.ra.ga.na (for Japanese words) and Ka.ta.ka.na (for foreign words), the only differences they have are how they are written and used; and Kanji (漢字; literally 'Chinese' & 'characters') which are the Chinese characters the Japanese have incorporated into their vocabulary, (most Hiragana 'BECOMES' Kanji).
*Hiragana:magnify: & Katakana:magnify: Charts

*The reason I tell you this is so you're familiar with the different writing styles they may use. C;

.:Final Terms:.

Just, clarifying things some more: since My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is an American, or foreign show, it's pretty hard to translate everything to Japanese and making sense of it all while staying true to the show; so, a majority of names (of ponies and places) will remain in a 'Japlish-state.' [I own all rights to that preposterous phrase! ;p] What I mean by that is: most names (just like the Mane 6) will be 'converted' to Japanese Katakana to stay true to the (original) English version, but due to Japan's limited amount of sounds in their 'alphabet,' they sound very strange to us English speakers, and sometimes sound almost nothing alike! (All of this is around the fact that Japanese Kana charts are based around the sounds of the vowels.)

Here are more names (that have been released) that I can help you with~

.:Characters:.

Spike スパイク [su.pa.i.ku] :magnify:

Princess Celestia プリンセスセレスティア [pu.rin.se.su se.re.su.ti.a] :magnify:

.: Places :.

Ponyville ポニービル [po.ni-.bi.ru] :magnify:

Canterlot キャンタロット [kyan.ta.rot.to] :magnify:

Equestria エクエストリア [e.ku.e.su.to.ri.a] :magnify:

.:Term(s):.

Cutie Mark キューティーマーク [kyu-.ti- ma-.ku] :magnify:

Brony (Con) ブロニー (コン) [bu.ro.ni- (kon)] :magnify:

Lauren Faust ローレン・ファウスト [ro-ren fau.su.to] :magnify:

*Equestria Daily (EQD) エクエストリア・デイリー (EQD) [e.ku.e.su.to.ri.a de.i.ri- (ii.kyuu.dii)] :magnify:

.:Title:.

My Little Pony: (?) Magic Friend(s) マイリトルポニー:トモダチは魔法 [ma.i ri.to.ru po.ni- : to.mo.da.chi wa ma.hou] :magnify:

^^; Whew, this will be fun... - So... 'My Little Pony' is clearly 'Japlish,' but the rest isn't. Tomodachi (友達) [which was written in Katakana for some commercial reason] means friend(s); wa is a particle [character used to build a sentence] that highlights the topic (tomodachi); and then mahou (魔法) represents magic.
There are a few ways you could translate Tomodachi wa Mahou, like: "Magic Friend(s)" or "Friend Magic," but what I think they were going for is "Friends -ARE- Magic." But, even then, the 'is/are' would be implied since you would need to add 'to be' (is/are) to the phrase, but that would make it a sentence/pretty long (for a title). / It would be complete if (the INFAMOUS) 'desu' was added, or the plain/informal 'da.'

.:Closing Statements:.

By now you may be thinking, "Hey Tania, COOL OFF on the 'clarifying!' It's drivin' me nutz!" If that's the case, I apologize. QwQ I only want to help out as much as I can with this, I'm the girl who would always be left with questions and no answers; so now, I'd really like to be the one giving them. :3 I love Japanese and the Brony community so much, so, ya know, I got to do my best!

Here's a list of some facts to know before you go!

* In Japanese a 'pony horse' is really (po.ni-) ポニー, but other definitions would be (ko.u.ma) 小馬, or small horse [which is acceptable]; and (same pronunciation, different Kanji) 子馬, which means baby/child horse, but it refers to all young horses in general. // Horse in Japanese is just (u.ma) .
* There is no difference between singular/plural in Japanese (for the most part), so where I put a (s) is up to you.
* The dot between 'Lauren' and 'Faust' in Japanese is used to separate foreign names; I wanted to put them in for the Mane 6, but most sites have left that out of their names, so I did as well.
* If you see a button that says 英語 (ei.go) it would be a great idea to click it, it means English.
* I will try to translate more scraps of things like this for you guys soon, but that depends on the demand. (This took SO LONG)
* The name translations from English to Japanese aren't actually so hard; I actually had a pretty good call for most of these back in 2011! :D
* Here's my idea on Derpy (MY INSPIRATION) Da-.pi- (ダーピー) [Now I have NOTHING for 'Hooves,' since Japanese can't make the 'hu' sound.] / I looked her up on Japanese sites, but just about everyone just types her name in English; "Derpy Hooves."

So yeah, that's about it. If you need any names translated from English (or other languages, but that'll take longer) to Japanese (KATAKANA) I'll be glad to help. BUT you MUST know that you have to be very specific with each syllable/sound! Take my name for an example: Tania directly becomes [tah.nee.ah] ta.ni.a, but in English my name is pronounced [tahn.e.ah] tan.i.a and sometimes [tahn.nee.ah] tan.ni.a, but in Spanish it would be [tahn.nyah] tan.nya. So yeah... My name is all over the place. So I tend to go with the first to avoid headache. But my Ponysona name, Taffy Cloud, would be タフィー・クラウド [ta.fi- ku.rau.do].
QwQ Thanks for taking the time to read, I hope you learned something and enjoyed it! / SO EXCITED FOR THE JAPANESE RELEASE! // BTW, Ichi is Japanese for the number one.
